We Made It To The Top

Half Dome is one of the most well-known and distinct mountains of Yosemite National Park. It is also a beloved tradition in my family. In fact, my parents hiked up half dome on their honeymoon! And my great grandfather hiked it for his last time when he was 79 years old. It's a 16.5 mile round-trip hike, and fairly rigorous. The elevation gain is almost 5000 feet, so it's up, up, up through a variety of terrain--including sandy trails, winding forests, steep rock stairs, and the famous steel cables up the back side of the dome. Ryan and I made a last-minute decision to "seize the day" and hike up Half Dome, while the kids spent the day with Grandma and Grandpa. We packed up our backpacks and headed up for this epic adventure. Ryan set a pace that just about did me in! We made it to the top in just under four hours.
On top of Half Dome!

Heading back down the cables. A little scary but quite exhilerating.
